Cavaye Yeguié Djibril Strengthens Cameroon–Türkiye Parliamentary Cooperation

Mandated by the Head of State, Paul Biya, the President of Cameroon’s National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguié Djibril, carried out a high-level working visit to Türkiye, placing parliamentary diplomacy at the heart of Cameroon’s external engagement. Far from a routine courtesy tour, the mission blended strategic dialogue with concrete institutional outcomes, reinforcing the role of Parliament within the country’s broader diplomatic architecture.
At the head of a senior delegation, the Speaker engaged counterparts at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, where discussions went beyond symbolism to address cooperation mechanisms, interparliamentary exchange and institutional modernization. The visit signaled Cameroon’s intent to deepen ties with Ankara through sustained parliamentary channels, positioning the legislature as an active diplomatic actor rather than a passive observer.
Alongside political consultations, the delegation focused on strengthening internal governance and staff welfare within the National Assembly. This pragmatic dimension culminated in the signing of a framework agreement with Memorial Health Group, in partnership with its local affiliate Memorial Cameroun. The agreement establishes privileged access to specialized medical services for Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff, drawing on Turkish expertise and advanced medical technology.
The initiative reflects a deliberate approach: leveraging international partnerships to enhance institutional efficiency at home. By addressing social protection and healthcare access for legislators and staff, the Assembly leadership framed welfare not as a peripheral concern, but as a pillar of institutional performance and stability. Observers note that the move aligns diplomatic outreach with tangible administrative gains, ensuring that external engagements translate into measurable internal benefits.
Through this dual-track mission combining international stature with internal consolidation the President of the National Assembly underscored a governance style rooted in balance: advancing Cameroon’s parliamentary presence abroad while strengthening the foundations of the institution at home. Conducted under the authority of the Head of State, the visit reaffirmed the complementary roles of executive leadership and legislative diplomacy in advancing national interests.
