Cameroon's National Assembly Gets Its Own TV and Radio Channels

The National Assembly has taken a significant step toward greater institutional visibility with the official creation of its own television and radio channels. The decision was formalized through an order from the Bureau, reference Nº 2026/004/AB/AN/CAB/PAN, signed by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguié Djibril.
According to the text of the order, the two channels are expected to modernize and optimize the communication of parliamentary activities, both at the institutional level and in terms of the individual work carried out by Members of Parliament.
The move places Cameroon's lower house among a growing number of African legislatures that have invested in dedicated media infrastructure to bring parliamentary proceedings closer to citizens. For a chamber that has long been criticized in some quarters for operating away from public scrutiny, the creation of these platforms could represent a meaningful shift in how the institution projects itself to the wider population.
Whether these channels will operate with genuine editorial independence or function primarily as institutional mouthpieces remains, for now, an open question. The real test will come when the cameras are rolling and debates get heated.
Details regarding the launch date, broadcasting reach, and operational budget of the two channels have not yet been made public.
